Alone - Balance - Weapons Part 1


Howdy,

So this week I started working on the new weapon system, and trying to balance it - which is no mean feat.

But let's start with a new feature first - critical hits.

Every weapon has a chance of landing a critical hit - depending on the type of weapon mostly - so spears and daggers and the like have more of a chance than a mace.

Landing a critical hit does double damage, so it's a nice little boost to combat.

Otherwise, this week is mostly been balancing the weapons.

Nothing's been set in stone just yet, but for each "material" there is planned to be (at most) - dagger, spear, sword, mace, axe, hammer, club, and large sword.

Statistically speaking, the sword will be the "basic" weapon, with daggers doing less damage but more chance to land critical hits, and maces more damaging but less accurate. Axes are just better than swords, hammers better than maces, spears are better daggers.

The club/staff and large swords are going to be two-handed and will do extra damage, but of course, can't by used with a shield - so there's that trade off.

So at the moment I started with the stone weapons and I've added an axe and a club.

So yeah, that's about it for this week. Next week I'll continue on the copper weapons, and go on from there.
